Lithographs matted; 45 in a 29X42.5 cm mat, and two in a 58X42.5 cm mat (folded in two) + [2] ff. Placed in a folder; "The Books of Moses" lettered on front. Good condition. Minor blemishes. Folder torn and worn.
Raphael Avraham Shalem was a student of the first class of Bezalel. The poster, depicting the interior of a synagogue in Salonika, is dated "5676" [1916] and was indeed created already in 1916; however, due to lack of means it was only printed in 1937. The present copy was printed with golden ink.

Avraham Gerzowitsch (Gershoni) was one of the first teachers at Bezalel. Headed Bezalel's lithography department for several year.

Gouache on black paper. Signed and captioned (in Hebrew): "N. Bedarshi, cover for Sefer HaYovel [Jubilee Book], filigree, Shevat 5676 [1916]".
Painter Nechemia Bedarshi (1897-1953), native of Thessaloniki, studied at Bezalel between 1913 and 1917. Bezalel's 10th anniversary, and the school's founder, Boris Schatz' 50th birthday, both took place during 1916. Possibly, the present sketch was created on the occasion of one of these events.
Approx. 23X27.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Marginal tears and perforations (without damage to sketch). Few creases. Stains to verso.

Large, high-quality collection of bookplates. Europe, USA and Palestine, the 20th century (dozens of earlier bookplates).
The collection comprises some 1700 bookplates, many of them were designed by artists, and many of them are prints, woodcuts and engravings. Including bookplates made by Hermann Struck, Ilya Schor, Yaakov Steinhardt, Joseph Budko and many others. A number of bookplates were designed by Leonid Kuris.
The collection includes bookplates made for universities, public institutions and libraries – the Hebrew University, The Weizmann Institute of Science, the Technion, the Jewish National and University Library (now the National Library of Israel), the Ben Zvi Institute (Yad Ben Zvi), the Israel Museum, and more; hundreds of bookplates of community libraries, synagogue libraries, school libraries and more, from Jewish communities all over the USA, Canada and elsewhere; and more. In addition, the collection contains several large sub-collections of bookplates, made by various artists for the libraries of bookplate collectors, including Raphael Grunzweig, Toivo Asikainen, Dr. Hermann Wiese and Mario de Filippis.
