Benedikt Fred Dolbin (1883-1971) was born in Vienna. After a period as a civil engineer and a cabaret singer, he turned to illustration and sketching. Caricatures by him were published in journals, books, theater programmes and advertisements. Since 1926, he lived in Berlin. In 1935, escaping Nazi persecution, he settled in New York, where he continued to work as an illustrator and caricaturist.
