The Pentateuch. Berlin: Soncino, 1930-1933.
A fine bibliophile folio edition printed in 850 copies. The letters and initials were designed by Marcus Behmer "after the letters used in the printing press of Gershom Cohen in Prague".
The Soncino Society of Friends of the Jewish Book was founded in Berlin in 1924 and published books with meticulous attention to typographic design. The society was dismantled by order of the Nazi authorities in 1937.
The Soncino Society meant to continue and print all the other books of the bible, but the dramatic political changes in Germany at the time led to the early termination of the project.
[132] ff., 40 cm. Without the German introductory leaves. Good condition. Dark stains to several leaves (most of the leaves are clean). New, fine, half-leather binding.

70 volumes belonging to the series "Bücherei des Schocken Verlag" [Library of the Schocken Publishing House]. Berlin, 1933-39. German.
The collection comprises 70 volumes – Book Nos. 1-6, 8-14, 16-47, 49-59, 61, 63-72, 75-80, 84, 85, 87, 90-92.
The Library of the Schocken Publishing House was established in the wake of the great burnings of the books at the hands of Nazis that occurred nationwide in Germany in 1933. The books in the series focus on a broad range of topics, everything from philosophy and biblical commentary to scientific research, poetry, drama, and all forms of belle-lettres by Jewish authors. The books in the series – all uniform in their outward appearance – were designed by Moritz (Moshe) Spitzer.
70 volumes, some with double numbering, 19 cm. Condition varies. Overall good to good-fair condition. Missing volumes: 7, 48, 60, 62, 73, 74, 81-83, 86, 88, 89.
