Lengthy letter (24 lines) handwritten and signed by Rebbe Yitzchak Eizik Weiss, the Chakal Yitzchak of Spinka. Karoly (Carei), [ca. 1930s].
Written on the official stationery of his son-in-law, R. Avraham Abish Horowitz Rabbi of Karoly.
Interesting letter addressed to R. David Sperber Rabbi of Brașov, regarding the dispute surrounding the rabbinic position in Karoly.
Rebbe Yitzchak Eizik Weiss of Spinka (1875-1944, perished in the Holocaust), only son of the Imrei Yosef of Spinka and author of Chakal Yitzchak (on the Torah and responsa).
His son-in-law, R. Avraham Abish Horowitz (1897-1944, perished in the Holocaust), was appointed rabbi of Karoly in 1934, a position previously held by Rebbe Yoel of Satmar. The Satmar Chassidim did not accept his authority, and appointed their own rabbi. The Orthodox community was thus split into two factions, as discussed in this letter.
Double leaf (2 written pages), official stationery. 23.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. Wear and minor tears. Folding marks.
