Collection of handwritten leaves, on parchment and paper. · Collection of pieces of parchment with samples of scribal writing. These samples were made by scribes to promote their work. The scribes would send the samples to communities that wanted their services or needed a Torah Scroll or Megillot. Some have signatures: “Shlomo Frank, shatz, shochet u’bodek, mohel, preacher and scribe of Oud-Beijerland (Holland)”, “Yitzchak Sofer scribe of Rotterdam (Holland); “Pictures of letters to show to special individuals who live in the village of Gorredijk who want to fulfill the mitzvah of writing a Sefer Torah…Amsterdam…1878”; “…my manuscript Ya’akov son of Mordechai HaCohen scribe in Groningen and Leeuwarden (Holland)”. · Two parchment amulets: an amulet for protection and success of a store; amulet for protection and salvation from ayin hara and illness. · Two more parchment amulet fragments. · Thick leaf, with a handwritten prayer: “Yehi Ratzon…that you should ease the distress of confinement of my daughter…”. · Handwritten leaf, prayer for a Brit Milah. 19 items. Wooden board, covered with paper, on which the letters of the Aleph-Beth are written as well as various verses. 18.5X32.5 cm. Fair condition. Tears, stains. Worming. Scribbles. 2. Heavy cardboard board. Covered with paper on both sides, on which the Aleph-Beth is written, vowelized, and with some verses and blessings. 34.5X21 cm. Poor condition. A printed shtar of sale of a place “in the new synagogue which was completed in 1671”. Completed by hand in Tevet 1671. Signed by the parnassim: Rabbi “Yitzchak son of Shmuel HaCohen”, Rabbi “Naftali son of Moshe HaCohen”, Rabbi “Aharon son of the Chaver R’ Moshe Avraham”, Rabbi “Tzaddok son of Shlomo”, Rabbi “Yehuda Leib Hamburger” and Rabbi “Yechiel son of R’ Gershon”. Amsterdam, 1671. The place sold is located in the “Men’s partition, the seventh row, north side, ninth place, known by its borders, between R’ Itzik Katz on the one side and Kohelet on the other”, [the second place had not yet been sold and belonged to the community, the community places were allocated for guests and non-regular congregants]. On verso: another handwritten shtar of sale of the abovementioned place, from the month of Sivan 1689. Leaf, 18.5X33 cm. Fair condition, tears and ancient paper gluing. An early document from the beginning of the days of the Ashkenazi community of Amsterdam, established in the 17th century. The first Ashkenazi residents of Amsterdam were mostly refugees of the 30 Year War (1618-1648), who arrived from the Rhine region [the customs are Rhine traditions, especially Worms and Frankfurt]. In 1648, during the Khmelnytsky Uprising, many refugees arrived from Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine and founded the Polish immigrant communities [headed by the author of Be’er HaGolah and his son-in-law who was the rabbi of the community].

Large handwritten leaf, with an inscription for a tombstone, including a rhymed poem. Allersheim (Germany), 1868. Prepared for the tombstone of Rabbi Netanel Gavriel Weisbort, who died on the 17th of Cheshvan 1868. In the text, he is called: The tsaddik and pious Torah authority and burier here in Allersheim Rabbi Netanal Gavriel Weisbort son of Rabbi Ze’ev of Schweinzhoften”. The leaf includes a poem in rhyme, 11 lines, with the name of the deceased in an acrostic: “Netanel Gavriel”. Written in the poem: “Tsaddik son of a tsaddik”, conducted himself “in piety and purity”, “Teacher of disciples”, “Torah authority of his congregation and its vicinity”, etc. 48.5X99 cm. Fair condition. Ink erosion tears, with damages to text. Wear, creases and stains.

“Be’ezrat HaShem Yitbarach MiKiryat Arba hi Hevron…” (with G-d’s help from Kiryat Arba – Hebron…) – Emissary letter for a mission on behalf of the Jewish settlement in Hebron and the Cave of the Patriarchs. [Italy, Venice?], ca. 1767. Printed emissary letter for the emissaries Rabbi Yitzchak Zeevi and Rabbi Chaim Rachamim Bajayo leaving on a mission to collect money for the Cave of the Patriarchs and the Jewish Settlement in Hebron, when debts reached the amount of 25,000 piezas. On top of the letter appear, in enlarged characters, names of several countries, including America: France, Holland, England and America. The Chida is also mentioned in the letter. This letter was written in 1763 and was signed by 32 people of Hebron, amongst them the Shadar Rabbi Amram Ben Dewan. Later, a letter from the sages of Hebron in Constantinople was written, and after that – a letter of recommendation from Venetian rabbis, written in 1767. [2] leaves, 33.5 cm. Fair condition. Stains. Printed leaf, call to support the construction of the Churva of Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid in Jerusalem, by the heads of the Ashkenazi community in Jerusalem, with the addition of the recommendation of London rabbis. [London, 1839]. Hebrew and English, on facing pages. Letter for emissary Rabbi Aharon Zelig Ashkenazi, sent to collect donations for the construction of the synagogue of the Churva of Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid. The original letter is dated the 18th of Adar 1837. The letter relates that the Churva courtyard had been returned to Jewish hands and the Beit Midrash Menachem Zion had already been built there. Even a Torah scroll had been placed inside the Beit Midrash, but the center of the courtyard still stands in ruins and is waiting to be built. Signed are the heads of the Ashkenazim Perushim Kollel [disciples of the Vilna Gaon] in Jerusalem. On the margin of the left column are English approbations, by the members of the Sephardi Beit Din in London. On the margin of the right column is an authorization of the rabbis of the London Beit Din and an English appeal by the emissary himself. The construction of the Churva synagogue was delayed because of lack of funds. Only in 1857, they began its construction until it was completed in 1864. 34X43 cm. Good condition, folding marks. Stains. In the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book , a similar leaf is recorded with a German addition by Berlin rabbis from 1841 [written there: Berlin? 1840], but this leaf was not listed in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book.
