Glosses in Oriental handwriting, by two authors. Majority of glosses signed "Chaim Midbar [acronym]" or with his full name "Chaim David Kalifi" - The Ga'on Rabbi Chaim David Kalifi, among the greatest scholars of Tripoli, author of manuscript Orach L'Chaim, passed away in 1886.

Lengthy scholarly glosses in Oriental handwriting, most of them signed "Petachya" or "the young Petachya Sab'on", the author of the glosses sharply disputes the author's words in some of his remarks.
Rabbi Petachya Mordechai Sab'on, one of the sages of Oran (Algiers) in the 19th century.

1. Mishnayot, Seder Nezikin. Berlin, 1861. The title page is signed by Rabbi Eliyahu Kalev who writes that he is the author of the glosses. The book has eight scholarly glosses in Oriental handwriting, six of which are signed "E.K".
2. Sha'ar HaMifkad, Even HaEzer. Rabbi Raphael Aharon Ibn Shimon. Jerusalem, 1919. Three scholarly remarks in Oriental handwriting appear on Hilchot Gittin, two of which are signed "--- Zutari".

* Shulchan Aruch Even Ha-Ezer, Vienna, 1809. * Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah, [Vienna, 1799?]. * Talmud Yerushalmi, Vienna 1821.
All three books contain dozens of lengthy scholarly glosses in the beautiful handwriting of Jerusalem Gaon Rabbi "Avraham Aharon Ha-Levi" Prague, (1870-1921) of the greatest sages of Jerusalem, son-in-law of Rabbi Mose Nachum Valenstein Rosh Av Beit Din of Jerusalem. Served as lecturer and Rosh Yeshiva. Was among the editors of the Yerushalmi edition (Jerusalem 1911). His essays remained in manuscript form except his book "Tavlin LaMitzva" on the Passover Haggadah, which was printed in 1910.
Three books, two of which are incomplete, various sizes and conditions. Original, damaged, leather bindings.

Mishna Torah L'Rambam, Part 2: Nashim-Kedusha, Lemberg 1809. Part 3: Hafla'ah-Tahara, Lemberg, 1811.
Both volumes have signatures of Dov Aryeh Ritter, and dozens of his glosses and handwritten leaves, some especially long and scholarly. Some glosses are signed. In his glosses, the author copies and notes versions of manuscripts of his library and versions of manuscripts from the Sefardi Beit Midrash in Amsterdam and from old printings.
Rabbi Dov Aryeh Ritter Av Beit Din of Rotterdam (1855-1936, Otzar HaRabbanim 4612), a prominent Torah scholar renowned in Holland, had connections with great rabbis from all countries in regard to responsa and public leadership. With his brilliant breadth of knowledge, he discovered the forgery of the Yerushalmi Kodshim and was the first to write about it.

2. Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah. Berlin, 1869. Scholarly glosses in Ashkenazi handwriting. Owners' signatures in Oriental handwriting Yosef Ma'ali HaCohen Tawil. (At the end, leaves are missing, bibliographically unknown edition).
3. Shulchan Aruch Even Ha'Ezer. Vilna, 1873. Scholarly glosses (some cutoff) in the handwriting of Rabbi Abba Ya'akov Borochov author of Chevel Ya'akov (1848-1936).

Pamphlets and leaves prepared for print of compositions by Rabbi Yosef Mashash (1892-1974, rabbi of Tlemcen, Meknes and Haifa).
1. Two pamphlets: "Ma'aseh Purim Shel Megaz", "Sefer Ma'aseh Yehudit". Both included later on in the book "Ner Mitzvah". Fez, (1939). The author sent the pamphlets to the printer or publisher, and wrote on the cover: "All material for end of book, and I will send to his honor the material for the beginning of the book. All material for the book Ner Mitzvah" (two handwritten corrections on first pamphlet).
2. Leaves prepared for print of "Drushim L'Bar Mitzvah", homilies and poems in honor of Bar Mitzvah, by Rabbi Yosef Mashash (printed only on one side of leaf). Title page contains area for filling out the day, month and year in which the boy becomes Bar Mitzvah. Fez, [1961].
Various sizes, general condition good. Stains and wear.

Chavat Ya'ir Responsa, with glosses by Rabbi Baruch Frankel author of "Baruch Ta'am". Lemberg, (1896). Dozens of Halachic glosses and dozens of corrections, in Ashkenazi handwriting with ink and pencil. The content of the glosses indicate that the writer is a great Torah scholar from the area of Hungary.
The proofreader notes on the margins of the title page that he purchased the book "for 50 Tzelem" [Austro-Hungarian currency].

Manuscript, Sefer HaShorashim by Rabbi David Kimchi - the Radak. [Spain, late 14th century].
Two columns on each page, fine medium-sized Spanish writing, in brown ink. Water stains throughout the manuscript resemble water stains which appear on paper produced during the second half and end of the 14th century.
In a sample examination of the manuscript minor version modifications were observed in comparison to a few printings.
Several missing leaves completed in more recent Yemenite writing. Vowelization of verses, source notations upon margins of columns and several corrections - in Yemenite writing. Yemenite signatures and ownership notations.
[270] leaves [leaves completed in Yemenite handwriting: 2, 18-25, 269-270]. Leaves [15, 16-17] bound out of order and supposed to be between leaves [1-2]. Several pages bound upside down [8-9, 145-146, 186-187, 189-190]. 26 cm. Majority of leaves in good condition. Tiny tears, stains along all leaves. Several leaves in fair condition (tears and stains, scotch tape). Approximately ten leaves in fair-poor condition (coarse tears with omission of text, non-professional restoration with scotch tape upon text). Paper cutting adorned with green dots. Fine scuffed semi-leather binding.

Long homiletics full of scholarly, kabbalistic and philosophical content. Manuscript dated according to references from books printed c. 1600-1700, including: Birkat Shmuel (Frankfurt am Main, 1682); "Tzofnat Pa'aneach Chadash (Frankfurt an der Oder, 1694); Ketonet Pasim (Lublin, 1691); "Ma'amarei R' Berech" (Zera Berech, Krakow, 1642); Maharash Algazi (Toldot Adam, Venice, 1605); Leket Yosef, Hamburg 1688); "That which was written by Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Kalish" (Sha'arei Shamayim, Prague, 1675) and other books of homiletics from that time.
52, [1] leaf, 32 cm, most of the leaves have four written columns, in Italian script (Rashi and regular script). Good quality paper, good-fair condition, stains and wear.

Two manuscript leaves, sections of the Zohar for Sefer Vayikra. Ancient Sephardic manuscript, from the period of the expulsion from Spain [c. 1490-1510]. The manuscript is dated according to the water stains on the paper.
In comparison to the first two prints it appears that this text has differences in the wording; some versions of this section differ from the Mantua print versions (1558-1560) but correlate with the Cremona print versions (1559-1560) and some differ from both. As well, he mentions that manuscripts on Sefer HaZohar which survived are few and rare.
Enclosed is a letter by an expert on Hebrew manuscripts.
Four pages, approx. 26 cm. Fair condition, defects on margins with omission to text.
