Ibex horn, carved and engraved.
Inscribed with the Hebrew word "shofar."
Shofars made from ibex horns are considered rarities, insofar as the ibex is a protected species in Israel, and hunting this animal is prohibited by law.
Length: Approx. 46 cm. Good-fair condition. Fractures and other damage.
Discovered in a genizah (repository for sacred documents and objects) in Jerusalem.

פליז יצוק וחקוק.
גוף המנורה עשוי כנשר גדל-כנפיים בעל שני ראשים, ששתי רגליו נתמכות בצמד אריות הרובצים על כן מלבני; על ראשיו ועל קצות כנפיו ניצבים ארבעה בזיכים, וביניהם הנשר הפולני, כתר לראשו, מחזיק בשרביט ובחרב. במרכז גוף הנשר מדליון ועליו חקוק מגן דוד.
מנורות שבת מדגם זה נוצקו כבר במאה ה-18. מנורה זו היא ככל הנראה יציקה מאוחרת.
גובה: 40 ס"מ. רוחב מירבי: 24.5 ס"מ. מצב טוב. כיפופים.

כל מנורה מורכבת מתושבת המוצמדת לקיר ומגוף בדמות צבי שרגליו מוקפות בשריגים מתפתלים. על זנב הצבי נח כן עגול; על כן זה הוברג חלק נוסף – בזיך, ולעתים זרוע שבראשה בזיך, להדלקת הנרות. חלק זה חסר בשתי המנורות שלפנינו.

צוואר המנורה מעוצב כעמוד מתעגל וצר לסירוגין, ובראשו כתר; קערית בזיכים בעלת שמונה חודים; קערית הנטף חסרה. המנורה בעלת מנוף הגבהה בצורת משור ולו מעצור דמוי ציפור. על חודי קערית הבזיכים הולחמו דסקיות כבסיס לבתי-הנורות.

Two Hanukkah lamps with back plates formed as Stars of David – folk art. Probably Djerba, Tunisia, [first half of 20th century].
Sheet copper and tin, cut and shaped.
1. With an unusually broad row of eight rings projecting forward from lower horizontal axis of back plate, meant to hold glass goblets serving as oil fonts. Additional ring, for servant light goblet, attached to middle of upper axis of back plate.
Height: 23.5 cm. Width: 40 cm.
2. Row of reeded oil fonts, projecting forward, attached to horizontal metal strip, attached in turn by two metal hooks, on either side, to rear of Star-of-David back plate, and situated just beneath and parallel to lower axis of Star of David. Oil font for servant light attached by metal hook to rear of upper axis of Star-of-David back plate, in middle.
Height: 26 cm. Width: 22 cm.
Condition varies. Some corrosion and rust. Minor damage.

Large Hannukah lamp – folk art. Djerba, Tunisia, [early decades of 20th century].
Iron, cut and shaped; rivets; paint; glass goblet.
Composed of thin iron strips, some shaped to form a row of rings, painted white. Back plate triangular, surmounted at apex by hand-shaped ornament ("hamsa"), fastened by rivets. Row of eight rings projecting forward from bottom axis of triangle and an additional ring (for servant light) attached to back plate, meant to hold goblets serving as oil fonts. Blue glass goblet included.
Height: 40 cm. Width: 46 cm. Good condition. Minor blemishes.

Pair of Torah finials. Jerusalem, [late 19th or early 20th century].
Silver, cast, engraved, and punched.
Jerusalemite Torah finials, with a design showing evidence of both European and Oriental influences. Upper part of body in form of hexagonal crown, tapering upward. A band in the shape of a hexagonal prism separates the upper and lower halves of the body. The body is supported on a cylindrical shaft with a hexagonal, calyx-like top. Six chains with bells at their ends. Surface engraved with simple geometric and vegetal patterns. On one of the two finials, the apex or "crown" is adorned with pointed horseshoe arches, whereas on the other finial, the apex is ornamented with flowers. One of the two shafts is marked "Jerusalem" (Hebrew).
Height: 23-24 cm. Some warping and few fractures. One missing chain.
