Torah shield. England, first half of 20th Century. Silver (stamped), cast, engraved and sawn. Frame with baroque design and flowers. Ornaments that are screwed into center of shield: pair of lions holding aTorah crown with a Star of David at the top. Open holy ark, on its doors are engraved the Ten Commandments. On two sides are a pair of decorated pillars (ornament or compartment for holding a plate with name of the Torah portion– missing). Chains for hanging. Dedication in Hebrew and English From Ze’ev Koshelson and his wife to the memory of their son Judah “who was killed on the battlefield in the Great War in August 1917”. Height: 30 cm. Width: 24 cm.
