Silver Etrog container of the Alter Rebbe Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the Baal HaTanya and Shulchan Aruch.The container was given to the rebbe as present by prince Lubomirski, after he settled in the town of Liadi; the container was handed down five generations, eventually being presented by Rabbi Avraham Schneerson (Grandson of the Tzemach Tzedek) as Wedding gift to his Granddaughter, Rebbetzin Chanah Gurary.


Rectangular container, adorned with vegetal patterns. Silver (84), partially gilt. Marked: St. Petersburg – 1803; assayer mark: A.Я. (Aleksandr Ilyich Yashinkov - active in St. Petersburg in the years 1795-1826); maker's mark: CFBB (Carl Frederick Bredenberg -  active in St. Petersburg in the years 1785-1821).


Letter of authenticity enclosed (handwritten note, in English), signed in Hebrew by Rebbetzin Chanah Gurary (1899-1991), eldest daughter of Rebbe Rayatz: "I hereby gift... the silver e[t]rog box of the Alter Rebbe given to him as a gift when he moved to Liadi by Graf Lubormirski. My grandfather Avraham Scheerson gave it to me as a wedding gift."

The Letter of authenticity is dated 12 November, 1989.

Enclosed is a wooden box which may have also been used in "Beis Rebbe" (the wooden box was handed over alongside the present etrog container, but is not mentioned in the letter of authenticity).


Approx. 9.5X9X12 cm. Good condition. Minor blemishes.
