Libri IV. de Sepulchris Hebraeorum by Johann Nicolai. Leiden: Henricum Teering, 1706. First edition. Latin and some Hebrew. A study of Jewish burial customs by Johann Nicolai (1665-1708), a philologist and professor of classical studies at Tübingen University, Germany. The book includes eleven engravings depicting Jewish tombstones and graves: nine engraved plates (one folding), and two in-text engravings. Additional in-text illustrations and sketches. Attached to three of the engravings are paper flaps, which, when lifted, expose tomb interiors. [15], 285, [2] pp. + [9] engraved plates (one folded), 20 cm. Good condition. Minor stains and blemishes. Tear to edge of folded plate (not affecting print). New endpapers and binding. Binding somewhat worn.
