Sefer Or Hachaim by Rabbi Yoseph Ya'avetz. Zholkiev 1848.
An essay against studying philosophy with comments called "Ma'ayan Ganim" by Rebbe Tzvi Elimelech Shapira of Dinov.
Rabbi Yoseph Ya'avetz (approx 1438-1507) was a Sephardic scholar from the time of the expulsion. After the expulsion from Spain and Lisbon he settled in Mantova. His books and commentary on Pirkei Avot were widely circulated. In this book he fiercely attacks the study of philosophy. He claims that at times of religious persecution the educated Jews were the first ones to convert, whereas the simple uneducated Jews withstood the test and were martyred.
The Rebbe Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech Shapira of Dinov (1783-1841) was a disciple of the Seer of Lublin and Rabbi Menahem Mendel of Riminov. He wrote "Bnei Yissachar" and many other books. The Munkacz Dynasty is descended from him.
