The Second World War by Winston Churchill. London, Toronto, Melbourne, Sydney and Wellington: Cassell & Co., 1948-1954. English. Six volumes.
The most important work by Winstron Churchill, surveying the history of Europe from the end of World War I until the end of World War II. Six volumes in elaborate leather bindings, accompanied by diagrams and maps in color.
Churchill started this composition right after the end of the war, and the volumes were published one after the other between the years 1948-1954. The second volume, concerning the Middle East, includes reference to the Jewish Yishuv and the issue of recruiting members of the Yishuv to the British Army. Churchill's testimony about the anti-Semitic relation of his officers towards the Jewish population was omitted from this work as the editors advised Churchill to do so, and it remained only in the drafts of this composition.
Set of six volumes, 21 cm. Red leather bindings with gilt lettering and decorations. Gilt edges. Good condition. Slight defects.
