Non-Traditional Haggadah, printed by the 3rd battalion of the Palmach. "Printed with a Multilith press by 'Mafil' ltd." Tel Aviv, [1948].
Handwritten, non-traditional Haggadah, with illustrations. Opens with a celebration of spring, and relates the story of the Exodus from Egypt, based on the traditional text (with various additions). Significant parts are dedicated to the war of independence, illegal Jewish immigration, and the struggles to establish the state of Israel. The text praises the Jewish soldiers and their fallen comrades, and ends with the Palmach anthem. Front cover features an image of a Jewish settlement in Palestine; back cover with the symbol of the Palmach.
The 3rd battalion was established in 1944, and as the war of independence broke out, it was the Palmach's largest. The battalion operated in the Galilee region, and took part in the fierce battles over the control of "Nabi Yusha" police fortress, which were fought shortly after Passover, 1948.
[1] front cover, 24 pp., 24 cm. Good-fair condition. Middle sheet (pp. 11-14) detached. Stains and minor blemishes. Minor tears and open tears to cover. Cover almost completely detached; reinforced with transparent adhesive tape.
