Handwritten, invitation letter to a Siyum Ha-Shas (Shas completion) from the Gaon Rabbi Ben-Zion Wiesel, Av Beit Din of Turda.
Long placard, the announcement begins with the words “Achad ‘Asar, Mi Yode’a” [Celebrating the 11th year of the Chevrat Shas in Turda]. Signed by “Ben-Zion Wiesel, Rosh Ha-chevra Lomdei Shas”.
The Gaon Rabbi Ben-Zion Wiesel (1864-1938, Otzar HaRabbanim 3913), Av Beit Din of Brasha, replaced his father as Av Beit Din of Turda in 1898. He was one of the greatest rabbis of his generation and headed the Orthodox Bureau of the Transylvania Rabbis (Eastern Hungary), he used his great wisdom and personal strength to protect and take care of the orthodox community’s needs. (The son in law who replaces him is Rabbi Yosef Adler “The Gaon from Turda”).
