Latin bible, with numerous in-text woodcuts depicting various biblical scenes, including the temple and its vessels, the apostles, and more. This Bible edition was edited by the Flemish Catholic scholar Johannes Henten (1499-1566) and proofed based on dozens of Vulgate manuscripts. Heavily influenced by French printer Robert Estienne's Vulgate, this edition was first printed in 1547 in Leuven, Flanders. Introduction by editor Johannes Henten (first printed in the 1547 edition) and by St. Jerome, famed translator of the Vulgate; indices at end. [7] ff., 1214 pp., [49] ff. Title page missing. Approx. 18 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, some dark, including dampstains. Creases and wear. Worming (mostly to first pages), with minor damage to text. Small tears, some open. First leaf (editor's introduction) torn and trimmed at bottom, restored with paper to margins and verso (affecting text). Several pages trimmed close to text, somewhat affecting headings and marginal references. Notations to endpapers and several other pages (with some ink corrosion). Leather-covered binding, somewhat worn. Gilt designs to spine. Cracks and abrasions to spine; partly detached. Text block split.
