Large collection of some one thousands Torah letters and essays, from the archive of R. Chaim Dov (Charles Ber) Chavel. [ca. 1956-1982].
The archive comprises: many rabbinic letters; essays to be published in HaDarom, occasionally with several brief lines of requests and signatures; and comments on the many books by R. Chavel, primarily on the critical editions of the Ramban's books. Enclosed are also photocopies of old letters from Torah leaders, and letters and printed matter on various topics.
The archive also includes many letters from researchers, authors and intellectuals. See Hebrew description for partial list of the rabbis and researchers who sent the letters.
Some of the enclosed essays were not ultimately published.
R. Chaim Dov (Charles Ber) Chavel (1906-1982), prominent editor of books of the Rishonim in the previous generation, founder and chief editor of the HaDarom journal in the United States. Rabbi in Long Island and dayan in the Beit Din of the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA).


Approx. 160 items, over 2000 leaves + dozens of envelopes. Size varies. Most items in good condition.
