Large collection of over a hundred letters sent to R. Isser Yehuda Unterman, and several letters written by him, telegrams and receipts. England and Eretz Israel, ca. 1929-1965.
R. Isser Yehuda Unterman (1886-1976), rabbi of Liverpool, England, and later chief rabbi of Tel Aviv and of Israel. The letters pertain to halachic issues; his communal work on behalf of the yeshivot in Eretz Israel during the Holocaust, during his tenure as rabbi in England; his appointment as chief rabbi in 1964; condolences upon the passing of his wife in 1965; and more.
The writers of the letters include many rabbis and public figures, such as R. Yaakov Moshe Charlap, R. Yitzchak Arieli, R. Yisrael Ze'ev Mintzberg, Rebbe Avraham Shlomo Biederman of Lelov, R. Eliyahu Eliezer Mishkovsky Rabbi and dean of Kfar Chassidim, R. Menachem Mendel Kasher, R. Tzvi Yehuda HaKohen Kook, and many others.


More than 130 paper items, including some 120 signed letters. Size and condition vary. Most letters in good condition.
