"The sounds of mirth and rejoicing…" - handwritten, decorated sonnet in honor of the wedding of David Avraham ben Shimshon Chai and Simcha Malka bat Yehuda Avraham Yisrael Morpurgo. [Italy, ca. 19th century].
The handwritten page is decorated with a floral border and stamped designs of vases and plants. At the top of the page is an introduction in Italian semi-cursive script. thereafter follows a sonnet in honor of the groom. The sonnet is signed: "from the mouth of babes".
The father of the groom may possibly be the wealthy philanthropist Shimshon Chai of Ancona who lived in Pesaro. Yehuda Avraham Morpurgo was listed among the signatories of Sefer Chaim Va'Chessed (R. Chaim Yitzchak Moussafia, Livorno, 1844) as a resident of Ancona. See enclosed material.
