Birkei Yosef, two parts – on the four parts of Shulchan Aruch, by R. Chaim Yosef David Azulai – the Chida. Livorno: Gio. Vincenzo Falorni, 1774-[1776]. First edition.
Important ownership. Various ownership inscriptions on the first title page, including the signature of R. Binyamin Wolf Löw author of Shaarei Torah and an inscription attesting that the book belonged to R. Michael Shimon May. Many stamps of Rebbe Pinchas Shalom Rottenberg of Koson-United States (1892-1966).
R. Binyamin Wolf Löw (1777-1851), author of Shaarei Torah, rabbi of Vrbové (Hungary) and other cities. A prominent Torah scholar in the times of the Chatam Sofer and R. Akiva Eger. Composed many works on all parts of the Torah, published as the Shaarei Torah series.
R. Michael Shimon May (d. 11th Sivan 1833), composed the book Chiddushei Hagahot on the Tur, together with his brother R. Yosef May.
Two parts in one volume: [1], 2-220 leaves; [1], 2-121, 113 leaves. 29 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, including dampstains. Wear. Worming to first and final leaves. Open tear (repaired) to center of first title page. New leather binding.
