De Creatione Problemata XXX [thirty problems of the creation], by Menashe ben Israel. Amsterdam: Typis & sumptibus Auctoris (printed by the author), 1635. First edition. Latin, Spanish and some Hebrew. First edition of Menasseh Ben Israel’s important book about the creation. Printed in the author’s printing press in Amsterdam (emblem of the printing press appears on the title page – square divided into nine squares, within which appear letters from the verse “Emet MeAretz Tizmach” in a manner which enables reading the verse horizontally and vertically). Five poems for the author open the book; poems by Caspar Barlaeus, Himanuel Nehamias, Jonah Abarbanel and Mosseh Pinto. [16], 156, [2] pp, 14 cm. Good condition. A piece of the title page is cut, restored with glued paper. The preceding leaf is also cut. Some handwritten inscriptions at margins of leaves, inscription on leaf preceding the title page (most of it cut) and signatures on title page. Somewhat worn leather binding (with tears at margins and spine).

Conciliador, by Rabbi Menasseh Ben Israel. Part 3. Amsterdam, [1650]. Spanish. The composition Conciliator, written by Menasseh Ben Israel, was one of his greatest achievements. This work, written mostly in Spanish, was primarily intended for Christian scholars and clerics, to enable them to understand genuine Judaism according to commentaries of verses in the Bible and reconcile apparent discrepancies in various parts of the Hebrew Bible. Moreover, the composition was intended to strengthen faith and the principles of Judaism among the Anusim. The book was highly successful, was translated into several languages and spread the name of Menasseh Ben Israel among non-Jewish scholars. Ownership inscriptions of “Moshe ben R’ Shmuel Sultan”. [11], 208, [6] leaves. 18 cm. Fair-good condition, stains and wear. Tear to bottom of last leaf, with minor damage to text. Original vellum binding, damaged and torn.

Tikun Socharim V’Tikun Chilufim. Amsterdam, 1714. Igron. Contains the versions of commercial letters and debentures and their laws, in Yiddish. The whole book was printed in cursive Ashkenazi font, a unique phenomenon for a printed book, this was to make it easier for dealers to copy from the book. On the verso of the title page, is the approbation of Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Ashkenazi Av Beit Din of Amsterdam, called the Chacham Zvi and in his approbation he mentions the font of the letters and prohibits copying the font produced by the publishers. [8], 230 pages. 15.5 cm. Good condition. Stains. Slight wear. Worming to several places. Parchment binding, with minor damages.

Regulations of the Prague community. [Prague, 1767]. Yiddish. A printed pamphlet. “The regulations announced on Shabbat Parshat Ki Tetze in 1767 in all the synagogues in our community of Prague…”. Various regulations for limiting extra luxuries. Mentioned at the beginning of the regulations, the author of Nodah B’Yehuda, Rabbi of Prague at that time, “Our master, teacher and rabbi, the famous…R’ Yechezkel Landau Segal”, who determined the regulations and signed them together with the rabbis and influential figures of the Prague community. Scholarly study by Johann Christoph Bodenschatz, researching the Jewish religion and Jewish customs (four parts in one volume). The book contains, in addition to Bodenschatz’s research, thirty detailed and beautiful engravings, most of them depicting Jewish customs: blessing of the moon, prayers in synagogue, Tisha BeAv and more. Johann Christoph Georg Bodenschatz (1717-1797), German Protestant theologian, outlined, in detail, in this book the Jewish life, mainly of Ashkenazi Jewry. Bodenschatz describes in detail Jewish customs of his time, and succeeds in portraying objectively the Jewish way of life and customs. Volume 24 cm. Good condition. Some stains and damages. Jüdisches Ceremoniel, oder, Beschreibung dererjenigen Gebräuche [Jewish ceremonies…], by Paul Christian Kirchner. Published by Peter Conrad Monath. Nuremberg, 1726. German. Detailed description of Jewish customs and ceremonies in 18th century Germany, by Paul Christian Kirchner. Accompanied by 30 engraved plates (with the exception of one, all are folded), including engravings which illustrate various Jewish ceremonies: donning tefillin, wimpel for a Sefer Torah, Shabbat and Festivals in the synagogue, etc. This composition was first published in 1717 (without the engravings). The author, born to a Jewish family, converted to Christianity several years before writing this work. In his preface, he declared his intention of convincing other Jews to follow his example and forsake their religion. In 1724, the composition was re-edited by Sebastian Jacob Jugendres, who orrected, refined, and softened Kirchner’s writing. [10], 226, [18] pages + [30] engraved plates (missing two plates), 20 cm. Accompanied by 21 engraved plates (some folded), which describe the various priestly garments. One engraving portrays a woman weaving. [36] leaves, 343, [20] leaves; [1] leaf, 345-752 pages, [30] leaves + [21] engraved plates (some copies exist with a different number of plates). Good condition. Few stains.
