S’deh Chemed, by Rabbi Chaim Chizkiyahu Medini. First part of second volume, letters Alef-Gimel, Warsaw, 1891.
A leaf with a dedication is glued to the back of the title page, it reads: “Souvenir of this close friendship”, part of it is written in print letters and part in the author’s handwriting: “I am honored [to dedicate my book S’deh Chemed] to the Gaon… Rabbi Yosef Zechariah Stern Av Beit Din of Siauliai…”. At the end of the printed dedication, there is an ink stamp from “Rabbi Chaim Chizkiyahu Medini… KaraSubazar”.
Includes title cover with the author’s handwritten inscription: “Siauliai - to the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Zechariah Stern”.
On the back page there is a handwritten copy of a Halachic question [from the S’deh Chemed?], written by the Gaon from Siauliai. There are additional inscriptions in the same handwriting [by the Gaon from Siauliai].
Rabbi Chaim Chizkiyahu Medini, (1833-1905) was born in Jerusalem, served as rabbi in Krim and Hebron; a tremendous scholar. Compiled the Torah Encyclopedia on his own, tens of volumes of "S'deh Chemed", and other books.
The recipient of the book, Rabbi Yosef Zechariah Stern (1831-1904, Otzar Harabanim 8783), was the son in law of Rabbi Mordechai Gimpel Yaffe, Gaon and Posek, was among the greatest Torah scholars of his generation. He served as Rabbi in Yashinovka, and in Siauliai (Lithuania) from 1861. Authored the “Zecher Yosef” and the “Tahluchot Ha-Aggadot”.

Merkavat Ha’Mishneh, Chidushim on the Mishneh Torah of the Rambam, by Rabbi Aharon Alfandri. On the sections of: Mada, Ahava, Zmanim. Izmir, [1755]. Only edition.
The Gaon Rabbi Aharon Alfandri (1702-1774, Ozar Ha’Rabbanim 1492) was a famous genius and was considered one of the great Torah scholars of Izmir in Turkey. Towards the end of his life he immigrated to Israel and resided in Hebron. His composition “Merkavat Ha’Mishneh” became one of the most basic compositions on the Rambam. He also composed the book “Yad Aharon”. The Chida [Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai] writes about him: “I had the privilege of knowing the Rabbi… and immensely enjoyed the Torah and holiness which radiates from him, and I have heard from his Holiness who wrote compositions on all the sections of the Rambam, and the Yoreh De’ah as well as some sections of Choshen Mishpat, which were entirely burned”.
At the end of the “Introduction by the author”, a handwritten inscription combined with the name of the author which was printed at the end of the introduction.

Member of Beit Din Gadol in Jerusalem. Established the "Beit El" Yeshivah in the new city. Died 1969. Author of eight volumes "Yaskil Avdi" book of responsum, and other books.

Was born in Safed, and moved with his family to Jerusalem where they established the Hirschenzon Printing Press. Among the founders of “Beit Midrash Abarbanel”, which later on became the national library. He participated in the First Zionist Congress. Emigrated to the USA and served as rabbi in the city of Hoboken, New-Jersey. Wrote dozens of books, the majority of which dealt with the issue of the establishment of a Jewish state from a Halachic point of view.
