Likutei Amarim [Tanya], "Book of Average Men" – "Gate of Unity and Faith", by Rebbe Shneur Zalman of Liadi. [Slavita: R. Moshe Shapira Rabbi of Slavita, 1796]. First edition.
The book is divided in two parts: Part I – "Book of Average Men" – Explanation of fundamentals of worship of G-d. Part II "Based on the first paragraph of Kriat Shema" – Explanation of the fundaments of faith in the unity of G-d, according to the doctrine of the Baal Shem Tov.
The advantage of this edition is that it was completely unaffected by censorship, which impinged upon most subsequent editions.

Likutei Amarim Tanya, by Rebbe Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Zhovkva, [1798].
This edition is the second printing of the Tanya in the author's lifetime, and was presumably printed without his knowledge. This is the first edition containing chapters of Igeret HaTeshuva – Mahadura Kama (printed at the end of the book).
This is the first time the book was titled Tanya, a title used ever since. In the first edition, the book was named only Likutei Amarim.
This edition earned two important approbations from prominent rabbis. The first one from R. Moshe Tzvi Hirsh Meisels Rabbi of Zhovkva, and the second from R. Yitzchak HaLevi of Lviv, rabbi of Krakow (R. Yitzchak HaLevi was a foremost opponent of Chassidut, however in this approbation, he highly praises the book and its author).
Signature on title page, in Hebrew; additional signature in Latin characters.
[3], 2-74 leaves. 17.5 cm. Good condition. Stains. Minor worming to title page and several other leaves (slightly affecting text), repaired with paper. Abrasions to title page and to final leaf (presumably from erasing stamps), not affecting text. Tears to leaves 47 and 57, slightly affecting text, repaired. Handwritten inscriptions and markings to body of text in several places. New leather binding.
Stefansky Chassidut, no. 623.

Likutei Amarim [Tanya], by Rebbe Shneur Zalman of Liadi. [Kopust, after 1814]. Two copies, variants.
This edition was printed almost line by line after the Shklow 1814 edition.
The title pages of these two copies differ both in text and typography. The text of the title page of one copy is identical to that of the Shklow 1806 edition, which was printed in the author's lifetime (with the omission of the names of the publishers), while the title page of the second copy is a combination of the texts of the Shklow 1806 and Shklow 1814 editions (resulting in a contradiction – the author is referred to both as living and as deceased on the same page).
Censors stamp of R. L. Yoffe of Kopust on the last page of both copies. Ownership inscriptions in the first copy.
Copy I: [1], 1-3, 5-52; 8; 28, [6] leaves. Lacking leaf 4 of first sequence. 17.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. Tears to several leaves. Old binding with leather spine. Damage to binding.
Copy II: [1], 1-45, 48-52; 8; 28, [6] leaves. Lacking leaves 46-47. 17.5 cm. Fair condition. Stains (including dampstains and dark stains to several leaves). Open tears and extensive worming to title page and other leaves, affecting text and title page border, repaired with paper (border completed by hand). Margins trimmed, with damage to headings in several places. New leather binding.

Likutei Amarim – Tanya, by Rebbe Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Yas (Iași), 1843.
With an enthusiastic approbation by R. Yosef Landau Rabbi of Yas, author of Responsa Birkat Yosef.
A decade before this book was published, a fierce dispute developed between the Chabad community in the city and the Chassidim of the Ohev Yisrael of Apta (then rabbi of the city), who strongly opposed the Chabad approach. In 1834, R. Yisrael of Ruzhin visited the city and made peace between the two sides. This may be what led to the warm approbation accorded by R. Yosef Landau, who was a close disciple of R. Yisrael of Ruzhin.
Signatures on p. 10a: "Yosef Shub".
[2], 92 leaves. 17 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, including dampstains. Worming, affecting text, repaired in part with paper. Inner margins of several leaves reinforced with paper, with damage to text. Stamp and handwritten inscription. New leather binding.
