Opening: $250
Unsold
Two Torah pointers. Jerusalem, Yemenite-Jewish Community, [early / mid-20th century].
Silver, cast and engraved.
Two Torah pointers of a basic form generally characteristic of pointers from Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria, and presumably produced in Jerusalem by a craftsman originating from one of the above countries. Flat pointers; their upper segments, surmounted by a suspension ring, are rectangular, gradually widening toward the middles. The lower segments then taper, narrowing toward the wrist. Both bear dedicatory inscriptions. Clenched hand with long, gently flexed index finger and cuffed wrist.
1. With vegetal and geometric patterns and two Stars of David. Hebrew dedicatory inscription: "[…] donated to the Sham'ah Synagogue by Hayyim Mahsoumi […] toward the elevation of the soul of my father Avraham son of Yehudah […]." Length: 26.5 cm.
2. With dense vegetal and geometric patterns. Hebrew dedicatory inscription: "[…] toward the elevation of the soul of […] Ya'akov David Mizrahi son of Miriam, passed away on the 23rd of Tammuz 5715 [July 13, 1955] […]." Length: 29 cm.
