Two "Khanjali" ("Kinzhal") daggers with decorated scabbards. Georgia / the Caucasus Region, [early 20th century].
Silver, marked, niello and silver thread; wood.
1. Hilt and scabbard decked in silver and decorated with dense vegetal patterns, some in niello. Arabic name, and date, 1329 (= 1911 CE) according to the Muslim calendar, engraved on back of scabbard. Length: 49 cm.
2. Scabbard and part of hilt decked in silver and decorated with arches and vegetal patterns, some in niello. Dedicatory inscription in Georgian (Kartuli) language, dated 1917, on back of scabbard, next to illustration of male-female couple (possibly indicating that the dagger was presented as a wedding gift). Length: 51 cm.
