Printed lithographic Siddur based on a manuscript copy, including Mincha, Arvit and additions for Motsaei Shabbat and holidays, learning order and Psalm reading for the deceased, and special prayers in memory of the victims killed by the Nazis in the island of Rhodes, Greece. Among those commemorative prayers, there is a prayer authored by Rabbi Menachem Papo, rabbi of the Rhodes Sephardic community, who is also the author of that Siddur.
An antique Jewish community used to live on the island of Rhodes since the middle-ages, however, most of the Jews who lived there moved to the island following their expulsion from Spain. At the beginning of the 20th century, many Jews moved from the island of Rhodes to Salisbury (known today as Harare), Rhodesia’s capital city (Zimbabwe) located in Africa, where they founded a synagogue. The present Siddur which is apparently the only Hebrew book ever printed in Rhodesia-Zimbabwe, was printed by the local community of Rhodes immigrants who lived there.
