"Sefer Vav HaMehapech, expresses ideas about the revival of our people in Eretz Israel" (Hebrew), by Avraham Dover Bernstein. Berlin-Schoeneberg: Siegfried Shalem [Shalom], 1911.
The book addresses the pogroms in East Europe (Kishinev and Gomel) and the revival of the Jewish people in Palestine, according to biblical verses. The author writes at the beginning of the book that he printed a certain number of copies at his own expense, for distribution, and that proceeds will be donated "for the needs of our poor nation…". The book is dedicated (in print) to Theodor Herzl and his portrait appears after the title page (within a unique illustration). The booklet "Evel Am", with memorial prayers for the souls of our people's great leaders is bound at the end.
This copy is apparently the author's copy. Numerous leaves were added to the book, on which the author wrote his original text, "word for word", uncensored, and the passages omitted by the censor are marked in blue for comparison with the censored copy – the original and final copies are bound page after page or nearby. The book also includes handwritten leaves, bound among the book's leaves, comments and additions – some long – written by hand on the book's leaves and a number of tracing paper leaves (not bound) written by hand (faded and mostly illegible).
[2], 274 leaves, [4] leaves + numerous leaves, 25.5 cm. Good condition. Stains. Original cover. Book is bound in an additional binding, of a later date, with another cover pasted on it.
