A Hebrew study booklet by Dr. Yehiel Lichtenstein (father of Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein), accompanied by black and white illustrations by Leon Zack (1892-1980), poet, painter, sculptor, book illustrator and designer of costumes and sets for the ballet.
The booklet endeavors to introduce children to the Hebrew language as well as to basics of religion and bible stories. A short approbation in Hebrew and French by Rabbi Yesha'aya Weil, Chief Rabbi of Paris, and an introduction by Rabbi Moshe Lieber, Head of the Rabbinic Seminary in Paris, appear at the opening of the book.

Lebedike klangen, ilustrirte alef-beys [Living sounds, an illustrated alphabet] by S.Bastomsky [Shlomo Bastomsky] and M. Chaimson [Malka Chaimson]. Vilnius: Grininke beymelekh, 1938. Yiddish.
A book for study of the Hebrew Alphabetby Shlomo Bastomsky and Malka Chaimson. The book is accompanied by illustrations (black and white); at the end of the book appear seven thick leaves with printed Letters (for cutting).
Shlomo Bastomsky (1891-1941), born in Vilnius, Yiddish author, editor, publisher and educator. Bastomsky studied in the Vilnius teachers' seminary and served as a teacher in "Mefitze Haskalah" school in Vilnius. He was devoted to children's literature and Yiddish journalism, and was engaged for many years in publishing periodicals for children and for youth. Among others, he founded a publishing house by the name of "Naye Yidishe folksshul" which published study books in Yiddish. Most books by this publishing house were composed and edited in cooperation with his wife, children's author Malka Chaimson.
This edition is not in NLI.
79, [1] pp, [7] leaves, 22.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. Creases and folds at corners of leaves. Small tears to margins of a number of leaves and margins of cover (bottom left corner of front cover is lacking). Tears and open tears to spine.
