Two booklets by Ze'ev Jabotinsky published following the 1929 riots, calling to establish a Jewish defense force.
1. "Defense Matters in Palestine", by Ze'ev Jabotinsky. Published by "Agency for Papers and Books Yehezkel Steinmatzky", Jerusalem, [1929].
The booklet was originally published in German four years earlier, prior to the 14th congress in Vienna. The booklet was translated into Hebrew as it was still relevant and the revenues were intended to aid "the victims of the riots", as stated on the cover.
16 pp, 24 cm. Good condition. Printer's sheet – folded and uncut. Significant stains. Some creases at corners.
2. "Security Matters in Palestine", by Ze'ev Jabotinsky. Published by "Do'ar HaYom", Jerusalem, [1929].
The booklet was written and published following the 1929 riots and explicitly refers to them.

Commission of inquiry, complete report of the parliamentary commission sessions in Jerusalem, starting on October 24, 1929. Published by "Tel-Aviv", Tel Aviv, [ca. 1929]. Parts 1-7 (no other parts were printed).
Seven booklets with summaries and reports of the Shaw Commission sessions, the British 1929 riots inquiry commission. On the back of each of the title pages appears the writing: "According to the stenography in the papers 'Davar', 'Do'ar HaYom', 'HaAretz', and 'Palestine Bulletin' with certificates, descriptions and impressions".
On the covers appear photographs of the commission members and on the back cover of one booklet appears: "Photographs by Aroshkes, stereotypes by Pikowsky".
Enclosed is the booklet: Defense problems in Palestine, by Ze'ev Jabotinsky, "Azriel" press, Jerusalem, [1929]. Booklet A (apparently no other booklets were printed).
Seven booklets, approx. 24 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains and creases. Tears at margins (mostly small). Front cover of booklet no. 1 is detached. Uncut sheets.

* Stenciled braodside from September 1, 1929. Distributed by High Commissioner John Chancellor following the riots. The text reads "I have learned with horror of the atrocious acts committed by bodies of ruthless and bloodthirsty evil-doers, of savage murders perpetrated upon defenseless members of the Jewish population… In accordance with an undertaking which I gave to the committee of the Arab Executive… I initiated discussions with the Secretary of State when in England on the subject of constitutional changes in Palestine. In view of recent events, I shall suspend these discussions…". Written under the title of the flyer: "Distributed today by planes flying above Jerusalem".
* Issue of the Haaretz newspaper from September 1, 1929, dedicated to the events in Hebron and throughout Israel. The newspaper cites testimonies from Hebron and Jerusalem, official notices of the British government, a call for peace by Arab leaders, lists of the wounded and dead, etc. According to a notice on the last page, the British government prohibited printing newspapers after the riots and printing was permitted on this date alone.
* Nine photos: * Three photos of a Jewish delegation visiting sites in Hebron, shortly after the riots: Two photos from the Avraham Avinu Synagogue and one from the entrance to Me'arat HaMachpelah. [Ca. 1930]. * A young man in traditional attire near Cave of the Patriarchs, verso dated 1934. * People praying at the entrance to Sarah's tomb after the Six Day War. * Buses and Israeli visitors at the entrance to the city. * More.

A dog tag and three booklets which belonged to Yaaqov Avni, a Jewish soldier in the Corps of Royal Engineers during World War II. Palestine and Israel, [ca. 1940s].
1. British Army dog tag: two tags threaded on a thick string, one round and the other octagonal, in two colors. An identical inscription appears on each one of them – the regiment, identity number, religion and name of soldier: Pal[estine] 46484, Y, Avni [the letter "Y" stands for "no religious preference"].
2-4. Three notebooks, printed, completed by hand and ink-stamped, issued in the name of Avni:
* Discharge Book, Locally Enlisted Troops. Discharge book from the British Army, with details of Avni's unit. Issued in 1946. * Identity Card issued by the British Mandate Government, with his photograph, personal details and his signature by hand (date of issue is ink-stamped, deleted and illegible). * Certificate "HaMityazev LeSherut HaAm" (enlistment certificate) in the name of Avni on behalf of "Merkaz HaMifkad LeSherut HaAm" with Avni's photograph and ink-stamped stamps. Issued on 7.7.1948.
Size and condition vary. Good-fair overall condition. Stains and damage. Discharge booklet with a horizontal folding line, tears at margins and tears along folding line.

Personal letters about everyday life in Palestine and in the lives of the British soldiers. The collection contains: * Letters in Hebrew and English sent to Beila Mairzon by British soldiers (some are Jewish). Ca. 1942-1945. Many letters were sent from soldiers in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers – R.E.M.E. * Letter from Mairzon to her friend Mordechai Levdansky who served in the R.E.M.E. * Letters to and from Beila Mairzon's family and friends in Palestine, written in Hebrew and Yiddish. Enclosed are most of the original envelopes in which the letters were sent.

Collection of letters from a soldier who served in the British Army and in the Brigade and documents of the estate of Meir Darvish who fought in the Israeli War of Independence. [1930s-40s].
The collection contains: 35 letters sent to Meir Darvish from his cousin, Marcel (Menachem) Eliyahu Milhe who also served in the British army and the Jewish Brigade from 1941-1944. Milhe recounts his and his brother's experiences during their army service. Some letters were sent to Darvish from another person named Nahmias. * 15 documents from the days of the War of Independence (and the time close to the war), during Darvish's service in the Company headquarters of the 9th Division (movement commands, medical authorization, leaf of "daily routine orders", copies of letter, a humorous leaf for a Chanuka party, etc.). * 35 letters in English from 1948, sent to Darvish by his girlfriend Lily (whom he later married). * A few dozen letters sent to Darvish by friends and family members during the 30s and 40s, family documents and other paper items.
Size and condition vary. Defects (primarily tears and filing holes) to some items.

The collection includes: * Proclamations printed following the publication of the Passfield White Paper in 1930. * "Ze'ev Jabotinsky to the Yishuv", proclamation calling to abstain from participating in the 1931 population census. * 21 issues of the Herut newspaper, the Irgun's mouthpiece which was published from 1943-1947. * Proclamations published following a confrontation between several Irgun members and members of HaShomer HaTzair leaving a Shomer HaTzair member with injuries by a gun discharge. * Notice by the HaTzohar (Brit HaTzionim HaRevizionistim) announcing its renewed participation in the 22nd Zionist Congress in 1946, etc.

A booklet for internal distribution (mimeographed typewritten booklet) for Etzel commanders. The first part is mainly ideological and deals with organization goals and expectations. The second part is a practical manual concerning conduct related to the organization: dealing with informers, means of communication and facing commanders and subordinates. The third part of the booklet surveys the British emergency regulations and the way in which they affect life in Palestine and organization members in particular.
[2], 85 pp, 22X16.5 cm. Good-fair condition (most of the leaves are in good condition). Stains. A fold along the title page. Folds at margins of leaves. Cardboard cover. A somewhat loose fabric strip along the spine. Tears at margins of cover.
