Manuscript of Novellae by the Rebbe, Author of Avnei Nezer of Sochaczew
Opening: $1,200
Unsold
Manuscript, novellae of various Torah and halachic topics, by the author of Avnei Nezer of Sochaczew. Some of the novellae in this manuscript were later printed in the Avnei Nezer and Eglei Tal responsa. Copy in handwriting of his disciple Rabbi Avraham Abba Frankel of Schedlitz (1872-1961), who in his youth studied in the Rebbe's yeshiva - see attached material about him, and the book B'Ohalei Tzaddikim by his son.
Rabbi Avraham Bornsztain, the first Rebbe of Sochaczew (1839-1890), a leading Torah genius and tzaddik in his generation. Son-in-law of Rabbi Mendeli of Kotzk. Served concurrently as Rebbe of thousands of Chassidim and as Rosh Yeshiva where he taught his disciples his special scholarly method [as he writes in the introduction to his books that he received his method of studying from his mechutan Rebbe Mendeli of Kotzk]. Many of Poland's brilliant Torah scholars were his close disciples (the Chelkat Yo'av, Rabbi Aryeh Zvi Frummer, the Gaon of Kozieglowy, Rabbi Avraham Weinberg, author of Reshit Bikurim etc.). His books, Eglei Tal on the laws of Shabbat and the five volumes of the Avnei Nezer responsa are basic books of the Torah world. Not all his novellae were printed; some survived only in disciples' copies from various times.
More than 100 written pages. Approx. 32 cm. Good-fair condition, stains and few moth damages. Detached leaves. Original leather binding, damaged without spine.
