Hanukkah Lamp featuring Map of Israel including Sinai – Gift to Senior IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Officer
Opening: $500
Unsold
Hanukkah lamp in form of a map of Israel (including all territories captured in 1967). Israel, 1979.
White metal, cast and engraved; bullet cartridges; paint.
A singularly unique Hanukkah lamp, apparently custom-made and privately commissioned.
Hanukkah lamp designed in form of a flat map of Israel, including all territories captured in the Six-Day War of 1967 (i.e., the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria, and the Golan Heights). The Sea of Galilee and other bodies of water appear as openwork gaps. The item bears a dedicatory inscription (Hebrew, on surface of map, over area of Negev and Sinai) to the Chief Officer of the IDF's Intelligence Branch (with the rank of Brigadier General); the Hanukkah lamp was presented to him as a farewell gift upon his retirement. The candleholders (including the servant light) and the four legs are all made from bullet cartridges. Three emblems – of the IDF, of the Intelligence Branch, and an officer's insignia – are screwed into three of the corners of the work.
