“Heinteken Shabbat Tzu-Nacht… A Farsmelongevegen Di Klal Israel Sefer Torah…”, printed invitation to special assembly in honor of “Torah Scroll of the entire Jewish people”, written in memory of the Chafetz Chaim. [C. 1933].
The invitation notes that the assembly will be attended by Rabbi Greineman of Vilna [the Ga’on Rabbi Shmuel Greineman, brother-in-law of the Chazon Ish, right hand of the Chafetz Chaim and Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski. Organizers signed [in print]: Pinchas Kaplan, Yitzchak Turetsky and Yechiel Rabinowitz.
Following the demise of the Chafetz Chaim, the Ga’on Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski established an immortalization enterprise by means of writing a Torah Scroll in memory and merit of the Chafetz Chaim. In the proclamation which he published, Rabbi Chaim Ozer appeals to all to take part and participate in the writing of the Torah Scroll through the purchasing of “letters”. The income from the purchasing of the letters was dedicated for the benefit of “Va’ad HaYeshivot” [Yeshiva Committee], which the Chafetz Chaim and Rabbi Chaim Ozer founded and maintained. In the proclamation Rabbi Chaim Ozer noted that the Torah Scroll “will be placed in a special case on the gravesite of the Chafetz Chaim in Radin”. The idea was successfully implemented and thousands from Lithuania, Poland, Galicia, Germany, Britain, United States and Eretz Israel participated. Names of donors were written in a special “memorial book” kept in Vilna [see attached material].
