The defining photographic record of the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe lost or decimated during the Holocaust. With over 500 photographs documenting Jewish life in Eastern Europe before WW2, this book was an early post-war depiction of communities that were gone forever, along with their synagogues, streets, stores, and people. The photographs were sourced from the collection of the Joint, YIVO and the photographers Alter Kacyzne and Roman Vishniac.
