Two letters handwritten and signed by R. Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor. Kovno (Kaunas), Shevat-Adar 1892.
The first letter, dated 23rd Shevat, is addressed to the heads of the community of Dogalishok (Naujasis Daugėliškis, Lithuania). R. Yitzchak Elchanan expresses his pleasure and extends his blessings upon hearing the news that R. Eliyahu Gordon had been appointed rabbi of their town.
In his second letter, dated 5th Adar 1892, R. Yitzchak Elchanan congratulates the new rabbi and his community and blesses them: "…may G-d shower on him and his community a great abundance of goodness and blessing…".
R. Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor (1817-1896), prominent rabbi of his generation, supreme halachic authority of his times and leader of Lithuanian and Russian Jewry.
The subject of these letters, R. Eliyahu Gordon (1865-1932), served as rabbi for over forty years in various places in Lithuania and later in the United States.
Two letters. Size varies. Good-fair condition. Stains. Folding marks. Tears to folds, slightly affecting text. Mounted on paper.
