Twelve collectible cards with pictures from the journey of Kaiserr Wilhelm II to Palestine. Produced by the German chocolate company Stollwerck (arranged on original album leaves of the company). [Germany, ca. late 19th century].
The Stollwerck chocolate company was the first to issue collectible cards in Germany. The cards were issued in series dedicated to various subjects – birds, soldiers, scientists and more, and were arranged in designated albums also distributed by the company. After the Kaiser's journey to Palestine, Stollwerck issued a special series of cards bearing pictures from the Emperor's journey.
These 12 cards depict various stations in the journey: Venice, Constantinople, Haifa, Jerusalem (five different cards) and more. Descriptive text (in German) on verso.
The cards are arranged on two original album leaves (six cards per leaf), with ornamented frames and a printed descriptive text (identical to the captions verso of cards).
Ten additional cards are arranged on verso of the leaves (from other series – German cities and "Chocolate Fairy").
12 cards, approx. 4.5X9.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Some stains. Minor blemishes to margins. The leaves: approx. 37 cm. Stains on the leaves; some tears to edges. Uneven cut to margins of one leaf.
