Torah shield. Austria, 1920s.
Repoussé and punched silver (marked, maker's mark: FT / ET).
Cartouche-shaped plate. In the center are the Tablets of the Law (blank) supported by a pair of lions surmounting a floral decoration. At the bottom of the shield is a blank cartouche and at the top is a large crown and a kaporet-like decoration. The surface is punched with tiny dots and the margins are decorated with rocailles and vegetal motifs. On the reverse are three loops and a chain for hanging.
Length: 31.5 cm, width: 23 cm. Some bends to margins.
