Torah scroll in an original case with decorative items. Tunisia, [first half of 20th cent.]. Parchment; wooden case; Gartel of cast silver; brass ornamentations; finials made of silver with brass ornamentations; mantle with gold threads embroidery. ~ Torah scroll. Whitish parchment. Fine Sephardic scribal writing. Parchment height: 54 cm. 42 lines per column. *Attached is a report of a computerized examination. The scroll can be easily restored. ~Wooden case of a dozen panels, its head surrounded by a "crown" of wooden ornaments carved in the form of harps. A commemorative dedication on the upper part made of set light wood pieces:"Lemenuchat [Hashem Hatov]Avraham ben Moshe Gabizon deceased Sh'vat 21 1935". The initials of the deceased are set on the front in Latin characters: "e.g." On the lower part of the case front is a nailed tin plaque with the inscription "Moshe Gabizon and his sons…". Height: 86 cm, diameter: 39 cm. Scratches and missing or damaged panels. ~ Mantle, made of fabric covered with Bordeaux colored velvet (worn and torn) and richly embroidered with golden threads and miniature metal disks (sequins). "Three Gates" appear in the center of the mantle within them the inscription: "…for the resting in peace…who died young, Avraham ben Moshe Gabizon…". Above the gates and on their sides appear lions, eagles, birds and butterflies; a pair of vases and four flower-pots with peacocks and birds. On the upper part are two loops for hanging. Height: 67 cm, width: 134 cm. Tears, amendments and patches. An exceptional ornament is attached to the "crown" on the upper part of the case, made of a dozen panels made of cast, silver and brass. Each panel is of foliage design in the form of a harp. A dedication is engraved on the panels: " for… Avraham ben Moshe Gabizon who died young…". Length: 125 cm, height: 19 cm. Several brass ornaments are missing. ~ Pair of large finials, made of impressed and engraved silver. On the posts appears an engraved dedication as the above "…Avraham ben Moshe Gabizon…". Brass medallions in various shapes are applied to the finials: hands spread as in a Priestly Blessing, memorial candle, a hand pouring water (symbol of a funeral), harp, Tablets of the Law, and more. Five hooks for hanging bell chains protrude from the edges (one finial lacks chain and bells; the other lacks hook, a bell and a chain with a bell). Height: 47. 5 cm. Damages, Slightly bent. Missing decorative parts.
