An embroidered dedication appears in the center: "in memory of Meir Ya'acobi son of Haviva/ fell in the line of duty in the Sinai War….age 21/…". Meir (son of Haviva and David) Ya'acobi was born in Jerusalem in 1935. Volunteered to the paratroopers and joined the patrol unit which took part in many operations outside of Israeli borders; Ya'acobi was Meir Har-Zion's deputy even though he was only a sergeant. Led in 1954 a unit that crossed the border in Tel-Azaziat area on the way to a bugging facility connected to the Syrian army telephone lines. The unit encountered an ambush and its members were captured (one of the prisoners was Uri Ilan who committed suicide while in prison). The prisoners were releases about 15 months later. When the Sinai war started, late in October 1956, Meir was enlisted and took part in the Mitla battle. Meir was injured during an Egyptian attack but continued fighting until he was killed. For additional information about Ya'acobi see attached material. 200X130 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains and tears.
