Copy no. 303 out of an edition of one thousand copies, signed by Thomas Mann. White vellum spine with gilt script and decorations, top edges gilt and Mann's monogram embossed on the front bindings [the letters THM]. In the beginning of the first volume is a lithograph portrait of the author, by Olaf Gulbransson.
Thomas Mann (1875-1955), German author, essayist and playwright. Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, 1929. Until 1933 Mann worked and wrote in Germany, but with the rise to power of the Nazi party he left his homeland and settled in the U.S.. The novel "The Magic Mountain" was first published in 1924, and is considered by many as the pinnacle of his work.
