Two plays by Theodor Herzl:
1. Das Neue Ghetto (The new Ghetto), by Theodor Herzl. Hebrew.
Play in four acts, translated from German to Hebrew by Reuven Breinin. Warsaw: "Achiasaf", 1898. 1st Hebrew edition. Fine binding by "Biblioteka Achiasaf".
First published in German in Die Welt. Location: Vienna, 1893. The play was written following the Dreyfus trial which Herzl surveyed as a journalist. The play focuses on an assimilated Jewish lawyer who tries to break through the social ghetto enforced on Western Jews, but he fails. The lawyer's death at the end of the play serves as a warning that the situation of Western Jews is unbearable.

2. Unser Käthchen [Our Katy], play in four acts, by Theodor Herzl, published by Buchdruckerei "Industrie" [Vienna, 1898]. 1st edition. German.
A humorous play mocking marital life, ridiculing men who are scared of their wives and women who abuse their husbands.
92 pp, 19.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Spotting, tears around the edges of some leaves. Several detached leaves. Simple cardboard binding.
