A short story by Shmuel Yosef Agnon, translated to German by his friend, the lawyer Max Strauß.
The German translation of the story was published in July, 1917, in Martin Buber's Jewish monthly "Der Jude" – before the Hebrew original was ever printed (see: "S.Y. Agnon: A Biography, " Dan Laor, Schocken, 1998, p. 112; Hebrew).
