Six Palestinian "aswara 'aride bi-l-quifl" bracelets. Palestine, Ramallah Region, [first half of 20th century].
Silver, cast; silver thread / white metal.
1-4. Four silver bracelets with square or pyramid-shaped bolts in addition to silver spherules and silver-thread decorations. These bracelets resemble the Yemenite "gubur" or "tomb" bracelets that are meant to serve as a reminder of one's eventual day of death as well as offering protection against the Evil Eye. Averaging 7.5X3 cm. Smallest bracelet missing clasp pin.
5-6. Pair of bracelets (made of low-grade silver or white metal). Also somewhat reminiscent of Yemenite bracelets mentioned above, but with rounded spikes (not square) separated by silver spherules. Approx. 6X3.5 cm.
