Owners' signatures: "The K' Daniel Prostitz…", before this signature additional writing was added in a different handwriting, by his son "I bought -----the K' Meir son of the Gaon".
The Gaon Rabbi Daniel of Prostitz (1759-1846), disciple of the Maharam Barabi, Av Beit Din of Pressburg and dayan in Pressburg from the time of Rabbi Meshulam Igra, who after some years was appointed as head of the Beit Din. In 1807, he initiated the appointment of the Chatam Sofer as Rabbi of Pressburg, and was his faithful friend. [Compare the signature to his photographed signature in the book Ishim B'teshuvot Chatam Sofer, page 125].
His son Rabbi Meir was born in 1916 and was circumcised by the Chatam Sofer (mentioned in the booklet of the circumcised).
