Отчетная выставка за 6 лет, Карикатура, политплакат, книга, журнал, газета, живопись, театр [Retrospective Exhibition of Six Years' Work: Caricature, Political Poster, Book, Journal, Newspaper, Painting, Theater]. Exhibition Catalogue featuring works of the "Kukryniksy" trio of artists – Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiri Krylov, and Nikolai Sokolov. Moscow: Изогиз [Izogiz], 1932. Russian. Design: Solomon Telingater.
Retrospective exhibition catalogue spotlighting the diverse artistic output of the painters belonging to the "Kukryniksy" trio over a six-year period. The catalogue opens with a caricature of the trio by artist Aminadav Kanevsky, followed by introductory remarks by Maxim Gorky and B. Malkin.
"Kukryniksy" (Кукрыниксы) is the group name for three painters – Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiri Krylov, and Nikolai Sokolov – who worked together for decades, mostly producing illustrations and caricatures for books. Their achievements earned each of them the titles "Popular Painter of the Soviet Union," "Hero of Socialist Labor," the USSR State Prize, and, in 1965, the Lenin Prize. The name "Kukryniksy" is an acronym composed of the first letters of the names of the three artists.
The catalogue was designed by the artist Solomon Telingater (Соломoн Телингaтер, 1903-1969), who was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and studied art in Baku and Moscow. He was a book and typeface designer and a member of the "October Group" alongside El Lissitzky and Aleksandr Rodchenko. In 1963, he became the first Soviet artist to receive the Iohan Gutenberg award for designing books and typefaces.
