Notitia utraque dignitatum, cum orientis, tum occidentis, ultra Arcadii Honoriique tempora, edited by Guido Panciroli. Lyon: de Gabiano, 1608. Latin.
Latin edition of the Notitia Dignitatum [List of Dignitaries], a work reviewing the structure of the Roman army and government in the fourth and fifth centuries A.D., containing a list of thousands of dignitaries in all areas of the rule of the Roman Empire, including Palestine (the original ancient manuscript was lost, yet several copyings of it from the 15th and 16th centuries remained).
This edition, edited by historian Guido Panciroli (1523-1599), is illustrated with many woodcuts taken from a previous edition edited by Sigismund Gelenius, some of which are attributed to Conrad Schnitt (1517-1541). The woodcuts depict views of Rome, Constantinople and other cities, coins, weapons, costumes, military badges and decorations, ships and more. One of the woodcuts (a large print on leaf 91) depicts Palestine on both sides of the Jordan River.
