In this edition, the commentary of the Gaon of Vilna is printed on the following books only (in order of volumes): Yehoshua, the prayer of Chana in chapter II of the book of Shmuel I, Melachim and Divrei HaYamim, Yeshaya until chapter 12, Yechezkel, Hoshe'a and Chabakuk. The final two volumes do not contain commentaries of the Gaon of Vilna.
This edition was arranged by R. Yehoshua Heshel Katz (Reines) of Horodna, author of Maayenei Yehoshua, who dealt extensively in deciphering and arranging the commentaries of the Gaon of Vilna. On the second title page, he is referred to as: "…The late R. Heshel Katz of Horodna, prominent in Torah and Chassidut, who toiled day and night until he understood the true intent of the Gaon". R. Yehoshua Reines passed away in 1813, and the final touches to the arranging and printing of the commentaries of the Gaon of Vilna were executed by the latter's grandson, R. Yaakov Moshe of Slonim. R. Yaakov Moshe added comments within the commentary (introduced by the acronym "A.N.H." = Amar Nechdo HaMesader, so says his grandson, the editor). Alongside the commentary of the Gaon of Vilna on Divrei HaYamim, this edition includes the commentary of R. Yehoshua Heshel Katz, under the title "Biur MiMoharik".
The commentary on the Book of Yehoshua in this edition is different to the commentary printed in the book Tzurat HaAretz, Shklow 1802.
Ownership inscriptions and stamps. In the first volume, stamp of "Yitzchak Yaakov son of R. Dov Ber Mosessohn" and penciled signature in Yemenite script of "Avatz ibn Sa'id al-Dahuh". In the second volume, signatures of "Yoske Perelman", "Avraham Yitzchak ---", "This book belongs to R. Aharon son of Eli. Lapidot", and signature of "Yechiel Chaim HaKohen Karelitz, Petach Tikva". On the title page of vol. III, ownership inscriptions of "Abba Chaim Tzipes". In vol. IV, signatures of "Eli. Kohen Margolies". Vols. V and VI bear ownership inscriptions of "The elderly rabbi, R. Eliyahu Yitzchak son of R. Moshe Kriviansky".

Approx. 22 cm. Condition varies, good to good-fair. Stains and wear. Tears. Worming, with minor damage to text. Paper repairs. Open tears to some title pages, affecting border and text, repaired in part (large open tear at bottom of second title page of vol. IV). Open tears to title page and leaves 2-4 of vol. V, professionally restored with paper (these leaves were previously detached and were remargined; possibly supplied from a different copy). Handwritten inscriptions. Stamps. Five volumes in original leather bindings (one volume with new binding). Damage and wear to bindings.
