Personal inscription upon title page: “Given to me as a gift here in Firenze by the prominent Rabbi Menachem Azarya Padova, the young Yitzchak Nunish Bilmonti”.
Additional signature: “and I have purchased it, the young Yosef Danon”. Signatures of Rabbi Refael Zilberman Av Beit Din of Safed and Rabbi Avraham Leib Zilberman Av Beit Din of Safed.
The Well-known Ga’on Rabbi Yitzchak Nunish Bilmonti (1710-1774), author of Sha’ar HaMelech on the Rambam, was among the great Torah scholars of Izmir. After the burning of the city in 1772 he embarked to Italy where he passed away in the city of Livorno. His book Sha’ar HaMelech prevails until this very day and is one of the fundamental books used to study the writings of the Rambam.
