A precise, detailed map of Palestine, with a geographic, historical and archeological description of the country.
Large color engraving, linen-backed and placed in a designated cardboard case.
Victor Guérin (1821-1891) was a French scholar and amateur archeologist. He made numerous expeditions to North Africa, Asia Minor, the islands of Greece and the Middle East. He visited Palestine eight times during the years 1852-1888 and toured it thoroughly. The results of his studies were published in his works: "Reports on an Expedition to Palestine" (1879); "The Holy Land: Its History, Its Records, Its Sites, Its Monuments" (1881-1883). This composition awarded him the Prize of the French Academy of Sciences; "Jerusalem, Its History, Its Description and Its Religious Institutions" (1889); "Description of Palestine" (seven volumes, 1880-1869).

Good condition. Stains and minor blemishes. Tear to fabric (approx. 10-cm long, in the seam between two parts of the map, not affecting the map). Tears and blemishes to cardboard case.
