Map of Palestine after Peter Laicstain and Christian Sgrooten. The map is east-oriented, depicting Palestine on both sides of the Jordan River, with the territories of the Tribes. The shoreline stretches between Beirut and Gaza. Three medallions with illustrations of biblical scenes in the upper right corner. In 1556, the Dutch cartographer and astronomer Peter Laicstain visited Palestine and made a detailed draft of the map of Palestine, which he gave to cartographer Christian Sgrooten, who published the map in 1570. In 1584, Ortelius copied the map, changing the orientation from north to east, which resulted in the present map.
