Likutei Torah, on Vayikra-Bamidbar-Devarim, by Rebbe Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Vilna, 1903-1904. Many glosses in the handwriting and signed by Rabbi “Menachem Ze'ev Batchan”. He writes that he bought the book in 1912 in the city of Žyrardŏw.
Rabbi Menachem Ze'ev (Batchan) Chasida (1885-1965), an outstanding Torah scholar, beloved disciple of the Rebbe, author of “Yismach Yisrael” of Alexander. Left his home and business in Poland and immigrated to Jerusalem in 1925, where he toiled in Torah and G-d's service and was involved with copying and proofreading ancient manuscripts. He edited and published the monthly journal “HaSegula” which published early manuscripts, (Jerusalem 1933-1948). A welcome visitor to the homes of Jerusalem Torah giants, his own home was a place of gathering of Torah scholars and Chassidic leaders. He was involved in the study of Chassidic and Chabad school of thought.
