"Freisinnige Zukunftsbilder" [(Pictures of) A Liberal Future], Poster No. 3 in the series "Politischer Bilderbogen." Dresden, Germany: Glöss, 1892. German.
Poster No. 3 in the series "Politischer Bilderbogen." The poster portrays a dystopian future, showing a modern European public square teeming with Jews who take control of the institutions of government in Germany with the help of their allies from the German Liberal Party (Deutsche Freisinnige Partei).
The series "Politischer Bilderbogen" was published in the years 1892-1901, and comprised 33 posters. These were distributed in thousands of copies throughout Germany. The posters featured blatantly anti-Semitic illustrations and caricatures, accompanied by descriptive text printed on the back. Although the posters were published anonymously, they are ascribed to the illustrator Siegfried Horn, who also created the illustrations for the anti-Semitic children's book "Das Lied vom Levi." (The signature "S. Horn" appears on one of the posters.) The texts are ascribed to the anti-Semitic author Max Bewer. The efforts over the years of several Jewish organizations to prevent the publication of these flyers – that openly incited violence against Jews – all ended in failure.
Linen-backed (hiding the printed text on verso) for display and preservation.
Poster: Approx. 49.5X63.5 cm. Good condition. Tears to edges and fold lines (some tears restored, with color touch-up). Minor blemishes.
